Located on a coveted lot, just a short walk to Higgins Beach, this traditional, single-style cottage balances a welcoming sense of openness with thoughtfully designed intimate spaces. Serving as a multi-generational, year-round residence, the home is a versatile and cherished gathering place for 7+ family members.
The first floor forms the heart of the home, featuring a kitchen, dining area, and living room designed for effortless flow and connection. The layout incorporates carefully curated sight lines and adjacent spaces, fostering an airy, spacious feel while allowing for moments of privacy and coziness. To maximize the space, the clients requested built-ins and storage areas throughout the home. Window seats and relaxing spaces throughout the home provide inviting spaces for curling up with a good book.
On the second floor, there are two bedrooms and two baths. The primary bedroom offers a balcony with views towards Angel Creek. The third floor is a lively, kid-centric haven with four beds to accommodate sleep-overs. This level includes space for the grandchildren to hangout, ensuring the family’s youngest members have their own dedicated space to enjoy summer adventures.
The small lots in Higgins Beach posed a design challenge for our team. We sought to use every inch of the square footage in the homes’ small footprint when designing a house to accommodate 7or more people in the summer.
The design of this home celebrates a traditional seaside cottage with close access to a classic Maine beach community. Whether enjoying quiet, year-round living, or hosting summer gatherings this home harmonizes timeless charm with functional spaces throughout to accommodate life across two generations of family.
