This indoor pool addition was designed to integrate seamlessly into the existing single-family dwelling, allow easy access to and from the back yard, and provide a beautiful space that can be retreated to year-round by the whole family. The client hoped to make new use of a portion of their back yard without losing the gathering patio and play spaces that were already in frequent use.
The initial concept design was based on the clients wish for a pool house with the feel of a conservatory, and the final design stayed true to the initial concept sketches, featuring large windows to let in ample daylight, and exposed timber trusses to provide primary structure as well as a natural wood finish. The connection to the backyard was maintained visually through the new exterior walls, and the interior floor finishes reflected the garden to really bring the outdoors in.
Working closely with the builder, pool company, and engineer; special care was taken to ensure humidity levels were accounted for and mitigated. The exterior finishes were selected to match the existing home, and we were able to match finish colors and hardware closely. Final interior finishes were coordinated with the client and their family, and with everyone’s input we were able to create a true oasis that the family was able to enjoy all summer, and is looking forward to enjoying through the colder months.
