Situated on a narrow and rocky wooded lot on the banks of Sebago Lake, this tall build is a modern take on a classic lakeside home. The owners, retirees with grown children, wanted a private retreat that captured views of the water and felt comfortable all year round.
The layout features three bedroom suites, an open kitchen, dining room, and living room, plus a walk-out basement and an attached garage. When inside, it truly feels as though you are among the trees thanks to an oversized wall of windows in the double-height living room, opening up expansive views of the heavily wooded backyard and lake. The living room is flanked on the other side with a catwalk and a grand open stair that allows you to take in the views upward as you travel throughout the house.
Using a rich color palette paired with natural wood floors and ceilings, the interiors are bright, bold, and full of light and modern details. From the outside, the exterior consists of low-maintenance materials like fiber cement boards paired with sealed wood accent walls and a metal roof.
Given the narrow nature of the lot, it was a unique challenge to balance the needs of the layout along with the desired design elements to fit comfortably on the small footprint without exceeding height limits.
Overall, we’re proud of how the home sits on the lot as though it was always meant to be there, blending beautifully and modestly into its surroundings, both roadside and waterside.
